Day 8: Morning Massages, Cinnamon Bay, Bye Jo, we start Gram's birthday celebration early & Ronnie's Pizza oh and Mr. Flip-Flop's Night Dive!
Today is our next to last full day on island and I am starting to feel a little melancoly. I can't believe it is already time for Jo to go home! We are going to miss her.
Mr. Flip-Flop, the baby boy and I are up early per usual. Thanks Baby! Since someone asked ... no he really doesn't stop smiling!
On the agenda, morning massages for me and Barbo and we really didn't care what anyone else did as long as they left us the heck alone! Yay, something to look forward to and take my mind off the end nearing. Those who read the Ram head hike saga know that Nomadic had to cancel due to a split tire earlier in the week. After a little back and forth with Casey (who is on the mainland but still does all the bookings) we settled on 9 am today. This actually worked out nicely as it gave us something to look forward to all week.
Up around 6:30 or so, but lingered in bed until about 7:30. I made another run to Pine Peace, only about a 5 minute drive away, for bagels, bacon, and eggs for more breakfast sandwiches! Yum. These are so simple and so delish. I should have taken a picture for the food porn, but alas, did not. I should have learned by now that the bacon at Pine Peace, though thick cut and top quality, was $7.49 vs Starfish's more normal price of $4 or so. Oh well. Still for around $12 we had breakfast for 6. Not bad.
Soon Aaron and Nicole arrived from Nomadic and got to work setting up for our massages. We decided to have them in the Barbo's master suite.
This was the view.

This massage was 80 minutes of pure bliss, if you don't count the last 5 minutes when the lawn people showed up and went to weed whacking right outside the window! Talk about bad timing. Still, no one could ruin this massage.
Nomadic uses Body Deli products and our pick was thai lemongrass. Fruity, fresh and invigorating. Well I felt as invigorated as someone reduced to a puddle of jelly by a great massage can feel. I love massages. I know they are indulgent, but it is vacation! Mr. Flip-Flop likes to dive, I like to dissolve. The cost is almost the same :)
Aaron was great. He asked me about any trouble spots and the level of pressure I would like and got to it. He spent about 50 of the 80 minutes on my back, which is my chronic trouble spot, but he also did some work on my upper arms. I didn't realize how tight and sore they were until he started working on them, no doubt from lugging the 27 lb boy around! Barbo and I chatted a little but soon I was unable to speak due to the deep state of relaxation/coma I was in. Great great massage, worth every penny and even worth the wait. I felt like a new woman. Barbo was equally satisfied with Nicole.
Post massage, I am pretty sure I couldn't form a coherent sentence here if you paid me. Maybe if you offered me another week on St. John.

During the massages, Mr. Flip-Flop headed to Mongoose to check out a few watches. Did I mention he is also a bit obsessed with watches? Particularly high end automatic (no battery) watches. Not that he owns many, but he very much likes to admire them and where better to do this than St. John and St. Thomas. He was particularly interested in the Breitlings and Patek Philippes and decided to see what Jewels had in their cases. He took the baby boy with him and found, like I had all week long, the people of St. John LOVE chunky babies. He did not buy anything. Research, just research. The nice gentlemen, upon hearing that they didn't have the exact model he wanted to take a look at, said he would happily get it from their vault. But it would take a day. This knowing in all likelihood it was just to satisfy Mr. Flip-Flop's curiosity. Excellent service, super nice people. They played with my kid, so they get bonus points.
Massage completed and consciousness regained, we decided to head off to Cinnamon for the day. Mr. Flip-Flop offered to hang back and deliver Jo to the ferry and hang out with the boy while he napped. Thank you Mr. Flip-Flop! I think his ulterior motive was a date with his PSP. I relax by reading on the beach, he relaxes by playing video games. Weird dude I married, but I am ok with it!
We hopped in with the Barbos and headed to Cinnamon. I had not been to this beach since our very first trip. It is a beautiful beach with good facilities. There is a camp ground and thus there are more amenities. Fresh water showers, a camp convenience store, a restaurant, rental water stuff. It is nice. A great starter beach.
A peek at a campsite.

Not to be negative...but I, personally, would be fine if I never went to Cinnamon again. Sorry if I seem cranky but it was pretty crowded and I kept thinking what are we doing here with all these people. It very well could be that it was the day prior to Thanksgiving and folks were starting to get into St. John for the holiday weekend. I don't know. Maybe it is always more crowded. It is a beautiful beach. Long and wide. It was fairly rough this day. Its not that there is anything wrong with Cinnamon, I just prefer more solitude. The same reason you won't find me on Trunk after about 9:30 am. To each their own!
I swear I thought this picture was straight. Not so much.

This side was fairly empty but the other side was packed with people. Packed by St. John standards not Jersey shore standards, of course.

We enjoyed lunch on the beach from the restaurant. The barbos with their burgers.

They serve burgers, grilled chicken sandwiches, hot dogs etc. A fairly limited selection, but it was a nice change from the sandwiches we had been eating most of the week. I had a tasty chicken sandwich and a mango smoothie that was delicious.
Mini Flip-Flop set to digging her way to china

While Mama Flip-Flop's toes relaxed in the sand

Look what the mini Flip-Flop made! Just kidding some guy was building this sculpture while we were there.

Soon the men Flip-Flops join us

This is how I would like to go to the beach!

They had safely put Jo on the ferry to Charlotte Amalie after a lunch at Uncle Joe's. Ulterior Motive 2! While my chicken sandwich was yummy, it was no uncle joe's. I am bitter, but I forgive.
I also discovered that the baby boy is not so fond of sand. I put his feet in it and he pulled them up so high they could almost touch his ears. He got some on his hands and he just kind of looked at them and looked at me like I was inflicting some form of ancient baby torture on him. Ok, maybe he doesn't smile ALL the time. Sand removal was in immediate order. To get all the sand off of him I took him for a little float in the water. Then wrapped him up tight and warm for snuggling. Loves the water, hates the sand. I am sure that will change by our next trip!
We spend a bit of time snuggling

And he hangs out in the chair to avoid the dreaded weird stuff...

Here is a shot of Peter Bay homes up above Cinnamon

After wasting a large part of the afternoon away, we decide to pack it in and head back to the house. I think it is somebody's nap time.

On the way home we hit the gas station for our first fill up of the trip. All in all we filled up once and topped off once spending I think about $60 on gas.

Back at the house, Gram takes a nap and Mini Flip-Flop and I get to work on Gram's surprise birthday cake!
After a bit of afternoon relaxation, Gram & the Mini Flip-Flop settle in to watch another gorgeous sunset

A shot of the Lanai from the pool deck

I had arranged a night dive for Mr. Flip-Flop with Chris Sawyer. He had to head out about 30 minutes before sunset to meet everyone at the Caneel dock. While he was off we decided on Ronnie's pizza for dinner (a three cheese and a meat lovers) for those who remained. We were tired, hungry and lazy so this fit the bill perfectly. In hindsight we probably should have eaten some of the tons of food we were going to have to leave behind, but Ronnie's was calling our name.
If anyone read my report from 2005 you might remember we ordered from Ronnie's the night I was too um relaxed to get out of the pool. It was delicious in that state and it was delicious in my completely sober state as well! A great choice for an easy and cheap dinner. $50 fed 5 adults and a kid if you count the 3 crusts that the Mini Flip-Flop ate. Dough only thank you very much, none of that cheese or red stuff!
Depending on where your house is they will deliver. When we placed our order they said they would call when the order was on its way. Barely 45 minutes later our hot pizza was at the house. I felt like an idiot because I had told everyone we better order before we are hungry because it will take a while. I was surprised by the efficiency! And not to worry we were all hungry by the time it arrived. Our group can always eat!
After our fill of pizza we decided to dig into Gram's birthday cake a day early so we'd have plenty of time to eat it all!

Dinner and cake out of the way, Jim draws a cool donkey for Mini Flip-Flop

And we just hang out having a relaxing evening. Our next to last night on St. John.
Around 8:30 or so Mr. Flip-Flop returns from his night dive with a huge smile on his face. His night dive went very well. According to him, Chris Sawyer's operation is top notch and he has found the outfit he'll dive with from now on. I like 6 paq, he didn't so much (faulty equipment will turn you off) and neither of us was really thrilled with Low Key. They were fine, just not great.
Since it was almost a full moon they were able to spend a significant portion of their night dive without lights, enjoying the bioluminescence. This was the coolest part of the dive to him. Night dives are totally different than day dives, the feeling in the water, what you see, it is all completely different. He saw a huge 3 lb lobster (I asked why he didn't bring it home for me to grill and eat!), a large eel that attacked a fish right in front of them, and a big daddy sea turtle. I will have to take his word for it. He would definitely do more night dives and definitely would go with Chris Sawyer in a heartbeat. He says he felt they were very professional and he felt very safe. He is lucky to get me in the water when it is crystal clear and I can see all the way to the bottom. A night dive will not be happening for the Flip-Flop anytime in this lifetime!
He was also pretty proud of himself (and he's not an arrogant dude) that he had impressed his dive partner, a local former navy seal who goes out frequently with Chris Sawyer. The guy went so far as to invite Mr. Flip-Flop along on a locals-only dive that was taking place two nights later. Sadly, we were leaving that day and he wouldn't be able to partake. This would have been the perfect opportunity to talk him into staying through the weekend!
All in all another great day on St. John!
Tomorrow: Gram's Birthday, Morning at Jumbie, Flip-Flop and her mama go to St Thomas, a Drive to the East End, & Thanksgiving Dinner at the Banana Deck!
Day 7: A Morning Sail with Bread on the Water, Hawksnest & Dinner followed by Putt-Putt at Pastory Gardens
Good morning, Sunshine. Good morning, St. John! I can't believe it is Tuesday. We've been on vacation almost a week and I feel like I never want to go home!
The boy agrees (my apologies for the drool)

After yesterday's rain, I was worried our morning sail would be a wash-out. I had talked to Joan the morning prior and we had planned to meet at 8:45 am. I set up the sail with Captain Gary on the Bread on the Water. Though we had done two all day boat trips (one power and one sail) on previous trips, we settled on a 1/2 day this time for several reasons. 1) I felt too guilty to leave the kids all day with Gram and Jo, 2) Jim has some seasickness issues, and 3) I wasn't sure we'd have passports on time for entry into the BVI.
In 2005, we did a full day sail with a different captain, who is very well liked by many, but just did not suit our style. We were disappointed so I felt a lot of pressure to make sure we made a better pick this time.
Gary and Joan and the beautiful, pristine 46 ft Bread on the Water did not disappoint. The other, not to be named Captain, was a bit extreme about his boat. I understand the care and work that it takes to maintain a boat. I am extremely, almost pathologically respectful of others property, especially those providing me with a service. I personally didn't like the "let's go over my 100 rules right at the top of the trip" feeling that we all got from that experience. I also felt the other captain pressured us to buy out the entire boat, when we only had 4 people, basically wanting us to pay for 6 or else he was going to line up another couple. We really didn't care either way, so we didn't and he did find 2 more to add to the trip. 6 people on his boat plus crew was TIGHT. I would not feel my customers were getting a comfortable experience with 8 people total (6 guests and 2 crew) on a boat that small. Let it go, Flip-Flop. I know. I know. We all know what opinions are like and that's mine.
Enough with the back story, and on to our day with Bread on the Water. We were up and headed to the Cruz Bay homeowners dock at 8:45. Lucky for us this dock is just down the hill, 4 speed bumps from our house. Free parking and convenient.

We parked and grabbed our snorkel gear and headed down the steps to the little floating dinghy dock.

A shot of the boat (stolen from the website)

Gary picked us up in his dinghy, Crumb on the Water, and I realized that this is going to be a whole different experience. Gary had a sense of humor, that must be what was lacking on the other sail!

A great day! He said that he and Joan wouldn't be happy until we are happy and he really meant it.
We got a good look at the Westin on our way out on the dinghy and I again am just not all that impressed, especially for the money!

As a kid, I had the great fortune to practically grow up at the marina/Hatteras dealership where my mom worked. I spent summers there, got off of the bus everyday there from the time I was 5 until I was 10. I have a deep and profound respect for the water and boating. My childhood also instilled in me a taste for the good life, maybe not such a good thing. Nevertheless, it gave me a lifelong love of the water and boaters in particular. When we asked Gary about the maintenance on such a boat he smiled and said that every single day they do something to maintain the boat. And it really showed.
We had our group of 4, myself, Mr. Flip-Flop, Barbo & Jim, and there was plenty of room to spread out. Very soon we were on our way. The weather was beautiful and we had a nice wind.
Happy girls ready to sail

The boys look happy too

We were all in a go with the flow mood, just wanting a laid back sail, a bit of snorkeling and some relaxation. Gary suggested sailing out to Christmas Cove and we were all good with that suggestion. The 1/2 day sail is technically from 9-12 ish. About 3.5 hours or so. Ours was more like 8:45 to 1pm. Thanks Gary. I know he doesn't do this for everyone but we were having such a good time and the afternoon was not booked so we took our time and really had a great time.
The best part of the trip was Roxy, the doggie. She was so cool. I loved her little life jacket with a handle so that we could pass her around if need be!

My husband has an interest in (some might say an obsession with) boats, and Gary was wonderful to him. Very engaged, answering all of his questions, giving him practical tips and ideas, and even letting him take the wheel for a while. I love power boating, and honestly am probably more that kind of girl. But sailing is such a wonderful laid back experience. Gary is a master sailor, having raced sailboats for much of his life with his family, and I could really appreciate the finesse it takes to sail. Keeping the boat on an even keel is far more about incremental intuition than muscle. Though muscle is required!
Joan had a smile on her face the entire time and they had a sweet banter between them. You could tell these two were in it for the long haul and were living their passion!

Some shots around Christmas Cove

Soon we were off the boat and into the dinghy with Gary to head to our snorkel. Because one of us wasn't a confident swimmer, Gary took us as close as we could get in the dinghy and dropped us off. He even had a dinghy ladder that was extremely helpful when it came time to get back in the dinghy! He also was vigilant about sticking around us in the dinghy should anyone have any trouble at all. This made our nervous swimmer much happier and allowed us all to better enjoy the snorkel.
For some reason, today the snorkeling came so much easier for me. I relaxed and began exploring Christmas cove seeing some really interesting things. The thing I always forget about snorkeling is if you just find a spot and linger, quietly and calmly, stuff will come out of the woodwork. We saw tons of beautiful fish, which I can't name. I need one of those fish decoder cards. The coolest little guy we saw was a long skinny fish that seemed to have rear propellers. I swear he stopped and backed up to get closer to us. He seemed to go everywhere we did.
Post Snorkel, Mr. Flip-Flop is very happy.

Joan had a nice snack for us when we returned.

Oh, I forgot, Gary had a fully stocked cooler with beer, sodas and water which he encouraged us to partake.
A warm freshwater shower later, we were all enjoying a beverage and a snack of fresh hummus, cheese, veggies, crackers and later, donuts! YUM! On the way back we took our time and enjoyed a lovely sail.

This is when my husband was able to get a feel for sailing this size boat. I could tell he was really enjoying himself.

Gary and Joan were fabulous hosts and I found myself saying to my husband and our friends "they are great" repeatedly.
It looks like she's being sweet here, but it is only because she just accidentally elbowed him in the head!

Very happy sailors

Bread on the Water sails out of St. John, November through June, so if you are planning a trip for that time frame be sure to check them out! They were awesome and made us feel completely at home on their boat.
After our great morning, we headed back to the house to find everyone has had a great low key morning. Knowing they were probably ready to get out a little bit, we decide to head to Hawksnest. It was a bit cloudy and spit rain on and off, but we were going to be wet anyway right! Mr. Flip-Flop, a bit tired from the mornings activities, elected to stay at the house with the baby and the rest of us headed off to enjoy the afternoon.

I like Hawksnest because it is easy and close and beautiful.
Mini Flip-Flop dug around in the sand

It was pretty quiet there, probably because of the threat of rain, so it was very enjoyable.
We decided to go for a bit of a walk.

While we were lazing the afternoon away we had the great fortune to watch a small wedding taking place at the far end of the beach. A beautiful bride! A really special moment. They had a little ring bearer boy who came down the sand "aisle" ringing a small bell. It was such a nice touch. This was the 2nd wedding I have seen on St. John, the first being kenny's ... JUST KIDDING ... the first being on our very first trip on Jumbie beach. We were asked very nicely if we would mind moving so that the ceremony could take place in the little cove we were in. We happily did. I must say I do have a tinge of jealousy of those who are lucky enough to be married in such a special place.
After a while we decide to pack it in and head back to the house. It is Jo's last night. Wow, 5 days goes fast. She joined us Friday - Wednesday and I couldn't believe it was almost time for her to go home. I had decided that it would be fun to go to Compass Rose for dinner and then do the putt-putt course at Pastory Gardens. For those who have not been here, it is a fun spot. The food is good, not great, but good. And if you have kids, they will love the putt-putt. I was a little disappointed that the upkeep on the course seemed a bit lax, but the Mini Flip-Flop didn't mind and she had a fierce battle with Jo and her daddy for the HIGH score! Actually Jo eeked out a 2 stroke win, with the mini shooting about 90 over par! I was not going to be the one to tell her high score doesn't win!
Max & Gram watch over the battle for victory

I think we were all pretty tired from a long day, so after a round of putt-putt we headed back to the house to relax and ended up playing the name game. I had never played this before but the adults ended up staying up WAY past our bedtimes because it was so addictive. The rules: (this is intended to be a drinking game and I would imagine it gets far more interesting the more you drink) You say a name and the person next to you has to say a name (of someone famous - actor, politician, historical figure, whatever but famous) that begins with the first letter of the last name of the name you said. Like I say, Jimmy Buffet, the next person says Barry White, the next person says Willy T! You keep going around, and if someone says a name w/ a double letter (like Marilyn Monroe) it reverses. Some people were really good at it and there were times I didn't think I was going to get a turn because it kept reversing between two players. It sounds totally lame, I know. But it was fun and we all got sucked in for hours. Finally we called it a night!
Tomorrow: Morning Massages, Cinnamon Bay, Bye Jo, we start Gram's birthday celebration early & Ronnie's Pizza!
Morning rain, 1/2 the gang goes to STT to shop the other 1/2 goes to Coral Bay & Dinner at Zozos!Today we woke to a very grey morning. Although the forecast for the entire time we were there showed a 30-50% chance of rain everyday this was the only day of real ugly long rain. We got a few afternoon sprinkles other days but no wash-outs. Even this day, with pretty heavy morning rain, wasn't a total wash. By the afternoon, the sun was back out!
I had cancelled Mr. Flip-Flop's pre-arranged dive with Chris Sawyer the prior day, not because of the rain, but because he was feeling a bit motion sick and like me had been nursing a bit of a head cold. (Other than the rain, he ended up regretting missing a day dive while there after taking the night dive more on that another day).Regardless, when he saw the grey skies he was glad I had cancelled on his behalf.
Still a cloudy day on St. John beats a sunny day in DC any day!

So we took our time getting rolling this morning. I made a run down to Pine Peace for some bacon, English muffins, and eggs. Enough to make our morning island staple, breakfast sandwiches, for all. Dozen eggs $1.99, bacon $7.49, English muffins $3.49. Breakfast for 6, priceless
Who says you can swim in the rain? You are going to get wet anyway. Gram took it to the next level, not even getting out of her PJs for the occasion.

After a little morning villa gravity, it was decided that those who wanted to would head to St. Thomas to do some shopping (Mr. Flip-Flop, Jo, Barbo and Jim were game), while those who didn't feel like it would hang back and figure something else out (Flip-Flop, the mini Flip, the baby boy and Gram).
The rain was pretty heavy on and off for most of the morning. I dropped the gang for STT off so they could catch the 11:15 ferry & headed back to the house. I don't know what it was with this trip. I've always "gotten it" but this trip I felt even more grounded. My priorities were definitely different. More about enjoying the moments and not doing the typical things. For example, this is the first time where I had NO desire to go to Charlotte Amalie to shop, not even for jewelry! All I desired was to immerse myself in St. John, really becoming one with the experience. I tried to slow down, have conversations, watch the happening, enjoy every moment and really see the island for all it is.
After I returned to the house I could feel everyone was feeling a little stir crazy so we decided to head to Coral Bay for lunch at Island Blues and a bit of local shopping. I could tell Gram was a bit nervous about the prospect of driving anywhere in the rain, but I assured her I would go slowly and we'd be fine. So we headed up centerline over to Coral Bay.
Our first bovine sighting of this trip. Mini Flip-Flop was SO excited.

I love Island Blues. I had not really discovered it before our last trip, but found out then that it is consistently good, has a slightly better atmosphere than Skinny Legs (I am not dissing Skinny Legs - I still love their burgers), and is just a cool place to have a rainy lunch. For me, it was the blackened mahi sandwich with island potato salad. For Gram, the chicken sandwich with fries. The Mini Flip-Flop just wanted FRIES. Its vacation, so we let that slide.
Here is the boy and I waiting for our food. Do you see how serious he gets when food is involved? Keep him fed and moving and you will NEVER hear a complaint.

And soon as if by magic, the skies started to clear up.

Yay, Sun!

After we finish chowing, we decide to walk a little bit down the road to the Cocoloba shops for a little retail therapy. My favorites are Little Fish and Big Fish. They could not have been nicer to us and especially the kiddos. Everyone wanted to squeeze the baby boy's thighs! Who could resist. I picked up a few surprises for Gromit (she has a December birthday) and a few for me. Note: Since Ruth asked, I thought I would clarify that Gromit is just one of my very best buddies, we are not sisters. We joke that we are the sister the other never wanted. She introduced me to St. John, so I must love her forever.

We made our way back to the car and worked our way further out to Jolly Dog. I was in search of their "Dog is my Copirate" t-shirt for Mr. Flip-Flop. I also picked up a shirt for myself next door with a jeep and "Think Left" on it. I decided that the reason I must love to drive on St. John so much and have NO problem keeping left is because I am a leftie. Maybe it seems fine for everyone, but I really have never gotten freaked out by the driving or roads. Well, unless there is a water truck involved but I think they would scare me no matter what side of the road I was on. Hell, they would scare me if I were pulled off the road parked!
Gram seemed to have stopped worrying about the driving and curiosity was taking over so I took her out to see Miss Lucy's.

And the goats....

Soon it was time to head back to the house to drop off the family and head to the dock to pick up the shoppers, as they were coming back on the 3 pm ferry. They were there waiting at 3:45, with liquor and other purchases in hand.
I retrieved everyone and since the sun was out, it was time for some poolin'. The baby boy loved the pool. Especially when he discovered splashing!

The closest we got to a family portrait the entire time we were there!

Before I knew it we had wasted the day away. Not that this is in any way a bad thing.
Tonight Jo was watching the kids so that the rest of us could head to Zozos for dinner. As you can probably tell, I adore my munchkins. But I will not lie and say I was not completely excited to be having a real grown-up dinner without them! They were happily tucked into bed & mama was getting her food and drink on. A win-win.
We had never managed to get to Zozos during any of our previous visits. I am not sure how it was totally off our radar, but it was. In all my research leading up to this trip, I never come across a bad, or even less than glowing, review of Zozos. So I decided it would be one of our two kid-free, higher end dinners (the other being the Flavors of St. John event at the Westin earlier in the week). Their entry at Flavors had reinforced my desire to go there and try the entire dining experience.
Zozo's

Not my picture, I swiped it off their website
I was a little worried about the parking situation but found they had a valet on duty to take care of your car. Very nice!
We are HUNGRY!

Decisions, Decisions

We ordered drinks and soon were enjoying fresh hot bread (soft on the inside with a crust, just the way I love it) with olive oil and fresh pepper. We decided to start with a couple of appetizers for the table, the calamari and the bruschetta di giorno, which changes every day as the name implies. Ours had pancetta, artichokes and other stuff I can't recall. These two dishes were wonderful. We cleaned the plates!
Hands down, this was the best meal I have had on the island. EVER. In all trips. The entire dining experience was wonderful. Casual, but attentive service. Wonderful atmosphere. The restaurant is located on the 2nd floor of the main building at Gallows Point, with views over the tops of a few units all the way over to St. Thomas. Our reservations were for 8 pm so we missed the sunset, but did enjoy the twinkling lights of St. Thomas and the cruise ships sailing out.
My entree - a grilled ribeye with grilled asparagus and a potato parmesan fried thing. Unbelievably good! I literally could have liked this plate clean.

Gram and Mr. Flip-Flop decided on the same dish, the Caribbean lobster with lump crab, risotto, peas and rice. Buttery, tender and wonderful. Sometimes Caribbean lobster can be a little tough, this was not. Absolutely perfect.

Jim enjoyed a pork chop that was astoundingly huge and perfectly cooked. We could not figure out how they got it cooked through when it was this huge! Yes, he ate it all!

Barbo got the tenderloin with grilled asparagus and risotto.

Deciding to live completely large, we also split a couple desserts.
The Tirimisu

I usually avoid Tirimisu, because though I love a good one, it seems a good one is hard to come by. They can get soggy and grainy and go horribly wrong. This one was nothing but right! Perfect.
And, of course, we had to have something Chocolate.
The Chocolate Torte with ice cream, served warm, it just melts in your mouth! The only problem with this one was that it wasn't 4 time bigger!

With our tummies full (do you sense a theme?) we passed John on the way out and I told him, truthfully, that we had one of the best meals of my life (top 5) and hands down the best meal I had ever had on St. John. He seemed genuinely thrilled to hear the compliment. Tage was a close 2nd, but the atmosphere and service at Zozos bumped it over the top.
Tomorrow: Morning Sail with Bread on the Water, Hawksnest & Dinner followed by Putt-Putt at Pastory Gardens
