Of all the camps Ella is taking part in this summer, Nature Camp was one that I just wasn't sure how it would play out. Would she LOVE it? Would she HATE it? She is her mother's daughter in so many ways ... Doesn't like to walk forever with no stated purpose (i.e. hiking), Doesn't like the Heat (hello, the White and 1/2 white people are melting) ... BUT LOVES bugs, flowers, the water, fishing, etc. So it really was gonna be a toss up.
Drama Camp - SURE Thing.
Sports Camp - Um, I think it will be torture for her, but hopefully not.
Summer Fun Camp - basically swimming all the time and playing - YEP.
Nature Camp - Big giant question mark.
Well, I am happy to report she LOVES IT. The first couple of days were questionable.
Me: "How was camp? What did you do today, Ella?"
Her: "We walked FOREVER like for at least 2 miles, Mom. I kept walking but I kept asking ARE WE THERE YET? And my leg hurt."
Me: "Where does it hurt?"
Her: "I don't know."
She survived and late last week she started to actually ENJOY herself and Monday was GREAT. Tomorrow they take a field trip to a water park, so we all know that will be fine. Then Thursday, the last day due to the holiday, they get to do 4th of July themed artwork, Water games and boating of your choice! She is stoked.
This is the girl who upon learning they would be canoeing in this camp turned to me with a completely puzzled look and said "Who is going to row the boat?" Success! Nature girl Ella. She has come home every day a complete mess. Chocolate pudding from lunch all over her face. Shoes reddish with dirt. Socks BEYOND salvagable. Ponytail half in and half out. She looks like she's been to war - there is archery after all (she calls it bows and arrows). But she loves it and that's all that matters. Of course, I direct her straight to the tub when we get home.
