VT

Yesterday I went on an 8 hour round trip to pick this kid (who is now a man) up from Vtech. At first he didn't want to come home. But then classes were cancelled. Then all the kids started leaving campus and he called and asked if we could come get him. There was no hesitation. This kid could have called at 3 am and I would have been on my way. He is like the mini-me of my husband and spends more time at our house than his own when he's home on break.

It wasn't until yesterday that the true meaning of family solidified in my mind. There is nothing I would not have done for this kid. My heart sank on Monday when I heard there was 1 fatality at Tech, we were fortunate, we got through almost immediately and were able to confirm he was ok. As the day wore on I can't imagine the feeling in the guts of those who were not able to get through to their children.

I also am amazed at how many people reached out to us to check on my nephew. My friends, coworkers, my husband's coworkers, old college friends, my godmother ... amazing. For now I am just grateful he is home and he is safe.
